Casa tops podium

-

Peterborough’s Tomas Casas picked up his second win in three races to increase his lead atop the points standings of the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike race series. Casas took an early lead and then held off a late charge from Frank Trombino to win the series’ third stage at Autodrome St. Eustache, Que., near Montreal. The 18-year-old Peterborough rider established a gap early on his Peterborough Cycle/Parts Canada Yamaha R6 ahead of pole-sitter Mitch Card (Ripley, Ont.) and fourth qualifier Trombino (Etobicoke), while Kristopher Garvie (Caledon) looked to play the spoiler. In a thrilling finish, Trombino got around Card and quickly began to reel in Casas. Trombino got close, but Casas jammed the door shut on the last lap. Card got third just ahead of Garvie, with Louie Raffa (Ste-Marthe, QC) rounding out the top five. “The goal was to get a good start because I knew I could run a faster pace than the other guys,” said Casas, who built upon his points lead going into the remaining four races of the season. “We made some suspension changes last night, but it was still bottoming out when I pushed it. I was at the limit, but I just kept my rhythm going and I hope I can keep that momentum going at Shubenacadie.” Jordan Szoke, of Lynden, Ont., won the Mopar Canadian Superbike main event for his 61st career win. The series continues with round four at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS on July 14-16.
