Celebratin­g Canada Day in Omemee

There will be many activities in Omemee to celebrate Canada Day. The Omemee Lioness will hold the annual pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at Coronation Hall. After breakfast you can go to the Trinity United Church parking lot for a bake and yard sale and the Lions’ barbeque.

There will be beach activities all day. Washer and ball hockey, face painting, children’s activities and games and a silent auction. If you didn’t pick up a Lions burger beforehand, you’ll have another chance at the beach.

The Lions will hold its second annual Ducktona 650 race where 650 plastic ducks will be released and raced to the finish line. Tickets are $5 each and selling very quickly. They are available from Lions’ members and Coronation Hall. There will be 50 tickets available July 1. There are great prizes including top prize of $600 and a dawdling duck prize of four dozen duck eggs for the slowest duck.

Youngsters will have a chance to Name the Duck at the boat launch. The winning name will be announced at the end of the race so ensure that your entry is in before noon.

The evening activities begin at 6 p.m. at the beach with the Black Fly Band. There will be free hotdogs and drinks for children under 12 courtesy of the Lions Club. Everyone can enjoy the special 150th birthday cake before the fireworks at dusk. Free glowsticks, stick on tattoos, Canada Day flags and collectibl­e Canada Day pins will be distribute­d by the Lions members.

Legion

The Omemee Legion will hold its annual golf tournament, July 8 at Tamarac Golf and Country Club. It will be a four person scramble format. Tee-off is 10 a.m., golfers must be at the course by 9:30 a.m. Cost is $45 per person green fee which includes a cart. You must be registered by July 1.

Cruise night

The Fowlers Corners and District Lions Club will hold Cruise Night @ CraftWorks Thursday nights until Sept. 7 beginning at 5 p.m. at The Barn, just east of Fowlers Corners. The weekly event includes a DJ with ‘50s and ‘60s music, draw prizes for the cruise night participan­ts and a chance to win a trip to Vegas each night for participan­ts and spectators over 18 years of age. There is no admission charge but donations are accepted to offset expenses.

Tea and talk

There will be a Tea and Talk for Seniors, July 25, 10:30 a.m. to noon at Adelaide Place, 84 Adelaide St. S., Lindsay. The event presented by Elder Abuse Network will focus on age and discrimina­tion. To register call 705928-4465.

Community Care offers many programs for Omemee and area residents. Meals on Wheels is available in Omemee and Downeyvill­e. For informatio­n call the office at 705-324-7323.

Trinity

An adult day program is held at Trinity United Church, Mondays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call the office for informatio­n or to book a spot. This program allows caregivers an opportunit­y to do errands, relax and have a break while their charge is enjoying a social opportunit­y.
