Lakefield Literary Festival returning

Come to Lakefield this weekend to celebrate Canadian literature. This weekend is the 23rd annual Lakefield Literary Festival from Friday through Sunday. Highlights include Writer's Craft Talks, Sir John's Picnic, Lakefield Literary Historical Walk, and the free Children's Tent Event.

Shamrock Festival

The Ennismore Shamrock Festival is on from July 21 to 23. On July 21 starting at 7:30 p.m. there will be a family dance, live music and fireworks at 9:30. July 22 is Free Family Fun day with many free children's activities, including bouncy castles, sundae making, a petting zoo, face painting, a dunk tank and more. There will be an all-day barbecue and booths from several local organizati­ons. The annual truck and tractor pulls will be held on July 23 starting at noon, rain or shine.

Admission is $10 per person or 2 for $15, and admission is free for children under 12 years of age. The Chemung Lions will have a barbecue and licensed refreshmen­t tent available track-side. There will also be an indoor Cottage Country Craft Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with more than 100 vendors. Admission is $2 and free for children aged 12 and under. Selwyn Public Library

The Ennismore Library will be having a book sale during Shamrock Festival on Saturday July 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the library.

Selwyn Public Library's Joan Macdonald, CEO and chief librarian, is retiring this year. All are welcome to join in a public celebratio­n from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday at the Bridgenort­h Community Centre, 836 Charles Street in Bridgenort­h. Presentati­ons will be at 2:30 p.m. and refreshmen­ts will be served.

The Kids LEGO Club starts on Friday and runs until Aug. 25 on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library. Children ages 4 and up are welcome to create their own masterpiec­es with the library's giant LEGO collection. This program is drop-in, and ages 8 and under should be accompanie­d by a caregiver.

There will be three Outdoor Storytime programs this summer featuring songs, fingerplay­s and fun nature-based stories for all ages. The first one will be this Thursday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library. The second one will be on July 18 at the Ennismore Library, and the third one will be on Aug. 9 at the Lakefield Library. To register, contact Jessica by email at summer@mypublicli­brary.ca.

This Wednesday is Big Game Day from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Lakefield Library for ages 9 and up. Registrati­on is required, and there will be life-size Jenga, memory, and gigantic Scrabble outdoors. Email summer@mypublicli­brary.ca to register.

On July 18, there will be Cupcake Wars in Ennismore from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the library. Compete against your friends to create (and eat) the best cupcakes with toppings and designs inspired by books you’ve read. For ages 9 and up, and registrati­on is required.

Ennismore Seniors

The Ennismore Seniors Knitting group is open to new members. They meet on Monday afternoons at the club on Tara Road for fellowship, fun, tea, cookies, and knitting. The group has knitted assorted items such as hats, blankets and pneumonia jackets for many regions of the world where they are needed. They have received a Canadian Legacy award for their efforts and are known for their work for children of war and impoverish­ed nations. For more informatio­n contact Marylynn at 705-292-8586.

Douro-Dummer Library

The Friends are hosting a Culture Days event on Sept 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the town hall in Warsaw. All “Makers and Doers” of Douro-Dummer are invited to showcase their talents and engage with the community. Contact Pauline at 705-652-6430 if you are interested in reserving a space at the event. There will be a barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and there will be a silent auction put on by the Art Gallery Committee at 1 p.m. featuring local artists.
