The city’s social service department is looking for emerging artists to create work for its downtown office space.

The city division put out a call for proposals for the Art at Social Services project on Wednesday.

It’s open to artists, who live in the city or county, and are within the first five years of their career.

Officials are asking for twodimensional work that promotes the visions and values of the Social Services Division, located in the Charlotte Mews at 178 Charlotte St.

The department works with individuals and families to further their goals and ambitions by offering financial resources, employment planning, child care, education and training, homelessness prevention and community partnerships.

It values fairness, potential, innovation, accountability, individuality and collaboration.

Art work can be done in medium, including painting, drawing, photography and mixed media.

Officials are looking for four pieces overall.

A maximum of two original works can be submitted by each artist. They must be ready to hang and can’t be too heavy.

Artists will be paid between $200 to $500 per piece, depending on the size and the medium.

A selection committee, made up of one social service staff member, two artists or curators and a community member, will vet artist’s submissions.

Submissions need to include a proposal, dimensions of the work, hanging requirements, a biography and images of past work.

The deadline for proposals is Oct. 2.

Applicants will be notified by the end of November on the committee’s decision.
