Khadr settlement ‘travesty of justice’

-

Recently a travesty of justice took place in our great country.

A group of unelected and unaccountable people in the Supreme Court made a decision to grant a confessed terrorist rights under Pierre Trudeau’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Justin Trudeau agreed and gave Omar Khadr $10.5 million of our hard-earned taxpayers money. I read the bleeding heart letters saying the poor child of 15 was so maligned by his incarceration and his Canadian rights were ignored during his internment.

I and about 78 per cent of the inhabitants of the best country on this planet happen to believe that Khadr is a criminal and was a criminal when he fought beside his father who was also a terrorist.

The fact that the Khadr family left Canada to fight for the Taliban in Afghanistan is a far as we are concerned forfeiture of any rights they had as Canadian citizens. To say that he was only 15 is a copout and a way to excuse his actions in killing a medic in the U.S army and blinding another soldier.

In Indianapolis, a 15-year-old was arrested for the murder of three men. He will be held accountable for his actions not given $10.5 million because he is 15 and didn’t know what he was doing.

It is so sad to read these letters supporting this terrorist, when we know this money will more than likely eventually end up in Taliban coffers.

Where is the outcry and support for our wounded warriors who put their lives on line for us and our way of life and came back broken to a country that requires them to fight the very government they fought for. You sure as hell don’t see Justin Trudeau offering our heroes that which he gave the terrorist.

Think about it, as Canadians we have certain values which we hold dear. The Khadr family renounced those rights when they left Canada to wage war with the Taliban, Khadr is a criminal and should be treated as such.

In view of this travesty our vets have to be saying we fought for the wrong side. Bill Ayotte East City
