First aid training will be available in August
Here are the scheduled August first aid courses from St, John Ambulance, happening at the Peterborough Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.
Standard First Aid
The standard first aid course is a two day course and provides comprehensive first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrillation (AED).
Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Aug. 1 to Aug. 2; Aug. 9 to Aug. 10; Aug. 16 to Aug. 17 or Aug. 22 to Aug. 23 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training with the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Emergency First Aid
The emergency first aid course is a one day course, providing basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.
Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen Aug. 1, Aug. 9 Aug. 16 or Aug. 22 at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
SJA also offers weekend and evening sessions at their facility on the lower level of Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.
Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: Aug. 12 to Aug. 13; Aug. 19 to Aug. 20 or Aug 16 to Aug. 27 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.
Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for Aug. 12, Aug. 19 or Aug. 26 at Applewood.
Renewals
Just need to renew your standard first aid certificate? There is a renewal class Aug. 24 at the Lions centre, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 5 p.m., depending on your chosen level.
Need to update your CPR certificate? There are afternoon classes slated for Aug. 12, Aug. 19 or Aug 26 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. An evening class happens Aug. 29 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Applewood location.
Babysitting Course
There is a Babysitting Basics/ Home Alone workshop planned for Aug. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lions centre.
The course is for youths 10 to 14 years old and equips participants with skills to handle many situations. through lectures, workbook exercises and hands-on practice.
Cost is $65 and includes a workbook.

Volunteers Needed
Peterborough Community Care is looking for volunteers for two of their programs.
Meals on Wheels needs people to deliver hot or cold meals on weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Commitment is once a week or every two weeks.
Transportation volunteers drive clients to appointments or errands. Commitment is flexible at two to three hours a week. Drivers are reimbursed for expenses.
