Ride the mystery bus

Dancing, travel, card games and more: A lot going on this August at Activty Haven

Activity Haven is holding several exciting events during the month of August and members of the community are invited to attend.

A Fresh Beginnings Dance, with the stylings of Maggie Sayless takes place Saturday, Aug. 19 from 7 until 11 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.). Enjoy a light lunch at 9:30 p.m. and a refreshing punch that will be served throughout the evening. There will be beer and wine for purchase and there will also be a compliment­ary designated driver service. The cost is a $2 user fee for Activity Haven members and a $5 cover charge for non-members.

Bingo, with a $500 prize board, takes place Friday, Aug. 11 in Room 5. The cost for 10 games is $15 per person. The canteen opens at 5:30 p.m.; the bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

Get your tickets now for the Mystery Bus Tour happening Thursday, Aug. 17. The bus leaves Activity Haven for a mystery location at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m. The cost is $65 and tickets are available at the office.

Mini Bucks Bid Euchre Tournament­s will be held Aug.12 and 26. The doors open at 11 a.m.; the euchre starts at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. Hamburgers and pie will be sold. No beginners please.

Tuesday and Wednesday lunches continue throughout the month. The lunches include a full meal complete with dessert and unlimited coffee or tea for just $6. This week the Tuesday lunch includes ham, scalloped potatoes, garden salad, and dessert. On the menu for Wednesday is stuffed pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes with gravy, roast carrots, and dessert. The lunches take place from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Takeout is also available by calling ahead.

Pop Up Stories

This summer the Peterborou­gh Public Library is offering Storytime in the Park, a pop up event happening in parks throughout the city. Storytime in the Park pops up in Northcrest Ward Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. (weather permitting) at Barnardo Park. Just bring a blanket or a chair and settle in for the story. This event is open to kids of all ages.

POSTPARTUM SUPPORT GROUP: Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Play Café, Brookdale Plaza Chemong Rd. Free dropin style meet up for parents with babies 0-12 months needing postpartum support. Facilitate­d by the Hello, Baby! Doulas and Play Café. FRE E CONCERT: The Peterborou­gh Concert Band will perform Sunday in the gazebo at the Riverview Park and Zoo Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m., weather permitting. This concert is part of the summer concert series sponsored by the Peterborou­gh Utilities Services, held every other week until September. Bring your own lawn chair.
