A fun day on Queen St.

Lakefield street will be closed to vehicles on Aug. 12 for sidewalk sale and much, much more

The Lakefield Sidewalk Sale will be on Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the village. Queen St. will be closed to traffic between Bridge and Reid Streets because the street will be filled with local merchants, vendors, artists and more. There will also be a kid’s zone at Cenotaph Park for the younger crowd, and many things to see and do.

The Lakefield Horticultu­ral Society is gearing up for their annual show. Thursday is the 39th annual Lakefield Flower Show. Admission is free, and the show will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Scout Building at Isabel Morris Park in Lakefield. All flower entries are to be placed between 4 and 6 p.m. on Saturday. Ennismore Heritage Artspace

The Ennismore Heritage Artspace Centre garage sale is from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Vendors are needed. Tables are $15 for a 5-foot table, and proceeds from the table rentals go toward the Artspace. Call 705-2925112 to reserve your space.

Lakefield United Church

The Lakefield U Gala will be on Sept.30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Regency Lakefield. It will be an evening of music, food, and drink, along with both live and silent auctions. All proceeds will be donated to the Lakefield U Capital Campaign for the preservati­on of the historical Lakefield United Church. Tickets are $150 each, payable by cash or cheque payable to the Lakefield United Church. Registrati­on is now open for the 2017 Lakefield Community Vacation Bible School. The school will be focusing on “searching the visible and discoverin­g the invisible” and is for children ages senior kindergart­en to 11 years. Selwyn Public Library

There will be an Outdoor Storytime on August 9 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Lakefield Library. The outdoor program will feature songs, fingerplay­s and fun nature-based stories for all ages. To register, contact Jessica by email at summer@mypublicli­brary.ca or phone the library at 705-652-8623.

There will be a special event with puppeteer and laughterta­iner Matthew Romain called Capt’n Matt’s Treasure Hunt. It will be an all ages event starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library on Aug. 16. On August 17, there will be a Maker Crafternoo­n at the Bridgenort­h Library from 1:30 to 3 p.m. featuring button-making, beading, magnets, duct tape creations and more. The program is for ages 9 and up, and registrati­on is required. Email summer@mypublicli­brary.ca to register.

Apsley Firefly Band

The Apsley Firefly Band will be putting on a fundraiser dinner at the North Kawartha Community Centre, located at 340 McFadden Road in Apsley. The concert will be at 6 p.m. on Aug. 22. There will be door prizes, a raffle, and spot dance prizes. Tickets are $13 each, or 2 for $25 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. All proceeds go toward the Trinity United Church and the Apsley Central Public School Music Programme.
