Folk Festival returning to Nicholls Oval Park this weekend
The Peterborough Folk Festival returns to Nicholls Oval Park this weekend after Buffy Sainte-Marie kicks off the festival downtown Friday night.
The iconic Canadian artist is performing at Showplace Performance Centre for the festival’s only ticketed event.
Sainte-Marie takes the stage after the festival’s 2017 emerging artist, Mary-Kate Edwards. The Peterborough musician released her debut EP, Blueberry Pie, in March.
Edwards will also perform at the festival on Saturday and Sunday.
The emerging artist award was created in 2001 to recognize local talent. Its first-ever recipient was Serena Ryder.
Friday’s event is $49.50, plus tax and fees. Doors open at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, music gets underway at Nicholls Oval at 11:30 a.m., running on four stages. The last show at starts at 10:10 p.m.
This year’s line up includes Juno Award nominees Hollerado, as well as Jenn Grant, Hannah Georgas, The Sadies and The Wooden Sky.
Well known kids performers Sharon and Bram will also be performing this year, taking the main stage Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
There are also workshops, a kids’ area with a stage, more than 50 artisan craft and food vendors, and a Publican House pavilion on site.
The Folk Festival is a green event, so attendees are asked to bring a water bottle, or use a reusable water bottle.
All shows and activities are free, but donations are encouraged to help keep the festival running.
NOTE: Tickets to Buffy Sainte-Marie Friday night are available online only at showplace.org.
