Speedway revs up
Thunder Car, Ontario Modifieds and more as Toonie Night returns to Peterborough Speedway
The next generation’s hardcore race fan is developing a passion for the sport in the grandstand of the hometown speedway.
Peterborough Speedway is saying thanks to its supporters of all ages as Pepsi presents the year’s final Summer Toonie Spectator Admission Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday.
It will be the third event of the season’s Hot August Night Racing Series with the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, Thunder Car, Organics and Glass Late Model and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series divisions.
Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says it’s going to be an action-packed night.
“With only three shows remaining in the 2017 regular season drivers in all of our weekly divisions will be looking to gain an advantage in the point standings,” Josiasse said. “Across the board, the battles are tight and things could come to the final of the feature events at the Championship Clash to determine the title holder in each class.”
The Thunder Car division will be back in action for the first time since July 29. Anthony DiBello is the current points leader, over Bailey Jacobs and James Townsend, and will be looking for his third championship in four seasons. Renegade Truck teams return to the schedule after a month’s absence, with Tim Burke at the top of the standings. Stacy Switzer and Carrson Hennessy sit second and third.
Pit gates will open at 2 p.m. with spectator grandstands unlocked at 4 p.m. and racing getting underway at 5 p.m. General admission is $2 with an on-track autograph session and driver meet and greet at intermission.
