Farm, Fields and Food tour looks for photos

All roads in the 2017 Farm, Fields and Food tour lead to the OSM Historical Society’s gallery of aerial photograph­s of local farms.

A sesquicent­ennial project is underway to gather 100 aerial photos of Otonabee South Monaghan, and so far Project Leader Gail McIntyre has rounded up 42.

The historical society is at the Keene Library in the Gayle Nelson Room and is the place to go to have Canada 150+ passports stamped on the day of the tour.

Also on the self-guided tour are Muddy’s Pit, Harley Farms, Keenedale Lodge, Stillbrook Riding Stables, Elmhirst’s Resort, Indian River acres, Doo Doo’s Bakery, Escape Maze, Traynor Farms and Dorisdale Farms. Applefest at Lang Village is part of the tour but requires admission.

The tour is Sunday, Sept. 10. from noon to 4 p.m. Maps are available at the township office on Third St., Keene.

1888 Aug. 27, Mon.

Willie took the job of digging a drain from the well to the house in which to lay a water pipe to supply the house with water. In the forenoon I finished the digging of the drain from the well to the stable in which we are going to lay the water pipes to supply the horses with water. After dinner I went to town for a load of tile and a lead pipe to take the waste from the sink.

1889 Aug. 26, Mon.

I finished reaping the oats. We have about seventy acres of grain out yet.

1891 Aug. 21, Fri.

Today I finished cutting the last of our harvest.

1895 Aug. 24, Sat.

We all went to the circus. Lovina and I came home at noon and went back again in the evening.

1898 Aug. 20, Sat.

Lovina, Maud Baxter and I went to our cottage on Stoney Lake and found everything alright.

1898 Aug. 22

Yesterday we attended a religious service in Mr. Dumble’s cottage. Today Mr. Duffus and Michael came to spend the week at our cottage.

1898 Aug. 23

This forenoon we had to stay in the cottage and amuse ourselves as best we could. It rained all the forenoon. After dinner James Duffus, Michael Duffus and I went in the canoe to the head of Stoney Lake and from there to the top of Blue Mountain which is about five miles from the head of Stoney Lake.

1898 Aug. 26

We had a lot of sport on the lake until the steamer Sunbeam came to our island and we started for home after spending a pleasant week. We arrived at Peterboro about dark. Duffuses and us hired a rig to bring us home. We found everything all right.
