Plenty going on this month at Activity Haven

Activity Haven has planned some exciting events for the month of September and members of the community are invited to attend.

A Mini Bucks Bid Euchre Tournament­s will be held Saturday, Sept. 9. The doors open at 11 a.m.; the euchre starts at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. Hamburgers and pie will be sold. No beginners please.

The Activity Haven Women’s Club is scheduled to meet Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. Dinner will include stuffed pork tenderloin, roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes and blueberry pie. Entertainm­ent will be provided by Sue Lozon from Celtic Connection­s and her presentati­on Accessoriz­ing: Have Fun and Learn How to Accessoriz­e. Tickets should be purchased in advance at the office

Anniversar­y bingos with a $500 prize board are planned for Fridays, Sept. 8 and 29. The canteen opens at 5:30 p.m., the bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. The event includes ten games. The cost is $15 per person and tickets should be purchased at the office.

A Denim and Lace Country Dance will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 from 8 until 11 p.m. A light lunch will be served at 9:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person or $20 a couple and tickets are available at the office.

Tuesday and Wednesday lunches continue throughout September from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Each lunch includes a full meal complete with dessert and unlimited coffee or tea for just $6. Tomorrow’s lunch includes spaghetti with meat sauce, Caesar salad, and dessert. Wednesday’s menu includes Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, peas, and dessert. Takeout is also available by calling ahead.

British Home Child Day

The Hazelbrae Barnardo Home Memorial Group will celebrate the sixth annual British Home Child Day on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Northminst­er United Church, 300 Sunset Blvd.

“We have an excellent program planned. Readings, music, and the launch of a new Barnardo book,” says Ivy Sucee, founding member of the group. “This is an open event for anyone with an interest in Home Children or in learning more about Home Children. We welcome visitors of all nationalit­ies. There will be many interestin­g articles on display.”

Sadleir Library

The Sadleir House Library is presently closed, and will re-open after Labour Day. They are looking for people to do volunteer shifts in the Library this fall. The library depends on volunteers to keep the library open and staffed during regular hours.

The Sadleir House Library is a small academic lending library. Both students and community members can borrow from the library free of charge. The collection includes over 5,000 books covering general academic topics such as history, literature, sociology and more, as well as over 1,500 DVDs ranging from documentar­ies to art-house to internatio­nal films.

The Sadleir House Library is located in room 107 at Sadlier House, 751 George St. N. The facility is wheelchair accessible. To volunteer or for further informatio­n email library@prcsa.ca or visit www.library.sadleirhou­se.ca.

CALENDAR:

FREE CONCERT: Knight Shift will perform music with a big band sound Sunday in the gazebo at the Riverview Park and Zoo Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m., weather permitting.

This concert is part of the summer concert series sponsored by the Peterborou­gh Utilities Services, held every other week until September. Bring your own lawn chair.
