England’s celebrated gardens, nurseries to be showcased
Once thought of as stiff and formal, the English garden has evolved to become welcoming and lively.
Join the Lakefield Horticultural Society for their presentation, “Year of the English Garden.” Joe and Hazel Cook will be showcasing their journeys through England’s most celebrated gardens and distinguished nurseries. The presentation is on Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield, located at 65 Hague Blvd. There will also be a mini-flower show. Non-members are welcome to attend. Ennismore Heritage Artspace
The Ennismore Heritage Artspace Centre will be hosting a craft sale on Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 2. The centre is located at 507 Ennis Rd. in Ennismore. Vendor space is still available. There will be free parking and free admission. Call 705-292-5112 for more information. All proceeds from the table rental raise funds for the centre.
Wellness recovery action plan
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association is offering a course for individuals who have had mental health difficulties and want to improve their lives.
The workshops are called WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) and will run on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. from Sept. 12 to Oct. 31. Selwyn Public Library
There will be fall book sales at the Bridgenorth and Ennismore libraries. The Ennismore Library book sale will be on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the library. The Bridgenorth Library book sale will be on Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 826 Ward St. in Bridgenorth.
Fall Babytime starts for ages birth to 18 months on Sept. 13 for 6 weeks. It will be in Ennismore on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. featuring, tickles, songs and fingerplays. Registration is required via www.mypubliclibrary.ca.
Fall Toddlertime starts on Sept. 13 and runs for 6 weeks. It is for toddlers aged 19-36 months and will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in Bridgenorth on Wednesdays. There will be stories, songs and games, and fun with teddy bears. Registration is required via www. mypubliclibrary.ca.
There will be a drop-in Saturday Storytime starting on Sept. 9 at the Regency Retirement Home in Lakefield, located at 91 Concession Street. It is for all ages, and all are welcome for songs, stories and a snack from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month from September to April.
Fall Storytime for ages 3 and up is starting up for another season. Join Kathleen and Corny the squirrel for stories, crafts, and songs. The program starts Sept. 5 and runs for 8 weeks. It will be from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays in Lakefield and Wednesdays in Bridgenorth. Registration is required.

Museum fashion show
On Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a fashion show in support of Christ Church Community Museum.
The event will be held at St. John’s Parish Hall in Lakefield, and all fashions are provided by Style Boutique, located in Bridgenorth. Tickets are $15 and are available at Happenstance in Lakefield. There will be desserts, coffee and tea provided.
Lakefield historical walk
On September 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. there will be a Lakefield Trail Historical Walk. Participants will learn what Lakefield was like 150 years in the past.
Tickets are $15, and all proceeds will go towards The Lakefield Trail, Christ Church Community Museum, and the Lakefield Historical Society. Tickets are available from Happenstance in Lakefield or by phoning 705-652-8797.
