Sinopoli third in receiving

Lakefield’s Rick Tompkins has an uphill climb if he’s going to make it into Wednesday’s playoffs at the Canadian Senior Triples Lawn Bowling Championsh­ip.

With two round-robin games left on Tuesday at the Peterborou­gh Lawn Bowling Club, Tompkins and his Ontario B team sit in sixth place with a 3-4-1 record. The top four teams after 10 draws advance to semifinals at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The medal games are at 1 p.m.

Quebec holds down top spot on the men’s side at 7-1 followed by Nova Scotia (6-2), Ontario A (5-3), Manitoba (4-4) and British Columbia (4-4).

Peterborou­gh’s Andy Caldwell is playing for Alberta as an injury sub. They are in tough to make the top four at 2-5-1.

On the ladies side, Manitoba and Ontario B are tied for first place at 5-2-1 followed by Quebec (5-3). Ontario A and Nova Scotia are tied for fourth at 4-3-1.

Round-robin play concludes on Tuesday with draws at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Peterborou­gh native Brad Sinopoli of the Ottawa Redblacks sits third in receiving yards so far this season in the Canadian Football League. As of Monday, Sinopoli had 728 receiving yards on 64 receptions in 10 games from the slotback position. Teammate Greg Ellingson leads the league with 944 receiving yards. Sinopoli also has three touchdowns and four two-point converts so far on the season. It leaves Sinopoli, a Crestwood Secondary School graduate, on track for a third season in a row with more than 1,000 receiving yards. The defending Grey Cup champions struggled in the first half of the season but are now on a two-game winning streak. The Redblacks (3-6-1), in second place in the East, face the third-place Montreal Alouettes (3-6) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal.
