Ferrari unveils hard top convertible
Now that the Ferrari California T is kaput, the legendary Italian brand has filled the void with a new entry level—even Ferrari has those — hardtop convertible: the Ferrari Portofino.
Officially a GT because of two tiny seats in there ar, the 591- horsepower turbocharged V -8 under its hood gets the Portofino to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. That engine gets about 40 h.p. more than the California T thanks to new pistons and connecting rods, new exhaust and a revised intake system. The chassis is also lighter and stiffer than the car it replaces.
The Portofino has electric steering, as well as a revised electronic rear differential and an updated magnet or heologicald amping system for more mechanical grip.
Ferrari’ s Aerodynamics department also added its two cents with, among other design cues, air in takes on the edges of the headlights that vent into the front wheel arch es and exit along the flank for less drag.
As this Ferrari is more for the street than the track, it also comes with a 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen as well as a separate passenger display, 18-way adjustable seats (in leather, of course), and a new wind deflector which is said to cut air flow in the cabin by 30 per cent. When it’s up, the roof- line also clever ly flows down for the impression of a fast back rather than a three-box design.
Oh, and if you like this colour, remember to ask for “Rosso Portofino” when placing your order.
Prices or availability have not been released; the Ferrari Port of i no will officially debut in Frankfurt next month.
