Petes trim roster to 27 players

The Peter borough Pete shave cut their roster down to 27 following training camp scrimmages including two free agents and an unsigned U18 draft pick.

John Parker-Jones, who had two goals and an assist, and Co bo urg Cougarspla­yer MackenzieL­owry as well as Graeme McCrory have earned an extra look.

“(Parker-Jones) has good size and a good skill-set,” said Petes GM MikeOke. “Last year he played junior Band showed to be versatile in the fact he played forward and due to some injuries some defence towards the end of the season.”

“(Lowry) is an undrafted player we definitely noticed in his draft year,” Oke said.

“He had a chance to go to OHL camps last year but also had the opportunit­y to return to Cobourg as a second-year player knowing he would be in the Royal Bank Cup and what a great opportunit­y that was, the fact they won and he is a local boy. He’s shown well to this point.”

“(McCrory) has shown a lot of compete and been competitiv­e each and every time he’s stepped on the ice,” Oke said.

Reassigned after the Maroon and White game were Parker Casey (Waterloo Jr. B Siskins), Brendan Cederberg (Listowel Jr. B Cyclones), Eric Conley (Kemptville Jr. A 73’s), Alderic Denis (Ottawa Jr. A Sens), Isaac Em on( St. Andrew’ s College ), Liam Israels (Strathroy Jr. B Rockets), Brady MacDonald (Strathroy Jr. B Rockets), Jake Nimmo (Leamington Jr. B), Matteo Pecchia (to be determined), Braeden Theriault (Toronto Major Midget Jr. Can a di ens ). First round of cuts

The Petes reassigned 13 players following Wednesday morning’s final scrimmages leaving 40 players for the Maroon and White Game at night.

The reassigned players, most of them 2017 draft picks, included Peterborou­gh native Riley Bates who was assigned to the Lindsay Jr. A Muskies as well as Luka Capin (Caledon Jr. C Golden Hawks), Ben Derrough (to be determined), Matthew Falls (Toronto Jr. A Canadiens), Chris Goodwin (Hamilton Major Midget Jr. Bulldogs), TysonHilli­er (Waterloo Jr. B Siskins), Andrew Horsley (Brampton Jr. B Bombers), Aidan McLeod (Fort Erie Jr. B Meteors), Jagger O’Toole (Listowel Jr. B Cyclones), Daniel Panetta (Wellington Jr. A Dukes), Jacob Partridge (Rayside-Balfour Jr. A Canadiens), SpencerPro­ulx (Ridley College) and Ryan Richardson (Smiths Falls Jr. A Bears).

“The Petes would like to thank each of the players re-assigned today for attending training camp and wish them good luck in their upcoming seasons,” Oke stated.

“These players performed well in all areas of training camp, including off-ice testing and scrimmages. Our staff will be following their developmen­t closely this season .”
