MEMORIAL: Formal ceremony at 10 a.m. to unveil the new Quaker Fire memorial sculpture in Millennium Park in front of the Quaker Oats plant entry at Simcoe and Charlotte streets. A reception will follow at nearby Princess Gardens.

MUSEUM: Made in Canada – Really!, a look at the industries and businesses of the past in Peterborou­gh and those that remain, exhibit runs until Oct. 1. ART: The Kawarthas Artists' Gallery and Studio presents Faces and Figures, an all-member art show and sale featuring portraits and figurative works. Runs until Sept. 10. FUNK DANCE PARTY: Funk dance party featuring Bridget Foley (rhythm and blues, funk), the 16-piece Knightshif­t (big band), Something Extra (funk) and local 12-year-old rockabilly sensation Nicholas Campbell. A benefit to raise money for the fifth annual Peterborou­gh Live music festival next year. At the Red Dog Tavern, 189 Hunter St. W. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:45 p.m. Tickets $10 at the door.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

NEW MINISTER: Meet Rev. Brad Peters, the new minister at Murray Street Baptist Church, at a gathering following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. With a free barbecue and games.

FREE CONCERT: Knight Shift will perform music with a big band sound Sunday in the gazebo at the Riverview Park and Zoo from 3 until 5 p.m., weather permitting.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

LABOUR DAY PICNIC: The Peterborou­gh and District Labour Council is hosting the annual Labour Day picnic from noon to 2 p.m. at the Nicholls Oval pavillion at the corner of Parkhill and Armour roads. ATU Local 1320 has donated a bicycle to give away.

DOURO DOINGS: Family activities at Douro Park, starting at 9 a.m. with horseshoe tournament, kids' games, tug-of-wars, a 10-kilometre run, an antique car show and a frog-jumping contest. A baseball and slo-pitch tournament runs all weekend. Followed by a roast beef dinner, live music and quilt raffle at of St. Joseph's Parish Hall on County Road 8. The roast beef dinner runs from 3 to 6 p.m., followed by the raffle from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets for dinner are $14 and can be purchased at the door. Organized by the Women's Catholic League of St. Joseph's Parish Hall as a fundraiser for the St. Joseph's Church in Douro.
