LAKEFIELD -- The schools taketh away and the schools giveth for the 2017-18 Lakefield Chiefs.
The defending PJHL junior C Orr Division champions lost some key players who left town to attend university including William Hickey (St. Francis Xavier), 2016-17 league rookie-of-the-year Lyndon LeMoire (Guelph) and Mitch Ogilvie (Guelph) in addition to graduating overage players Eric Oosting, Nick Hildenbrand and Colton Armstrong.
But head coach Jamie Arcand is excited about some of the new faces the Chiefs will unveil when they open their season at 7:25 p.m. Saturday against the Georgina Ice at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre.
Some new faces with junior A and B experience attending Fleming College and Trent University will help offset those losses.
