Beatles go Brass Friday at Performing Arts Lakefield

Performing Arts Lakefield presentsBe­atlesGoBra­ssthisFrid­ay evening. The Weston Silver Band, winner of the 2017 North American Brass Band Championsh­ip, will be performing timeless songs by The Beatles. The concert will be at the Bryan Jones Theatre at Lakefield College School.

The doors open at 7 p.m. and the performanc­e begins at 7:30. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students. Performing Arts Lakefield is a non-profit volunteer group that has been entertaini­ng for more than 35 years.

Lakefield Historical Society

The Lakefield Historical Society is holding their first fall meeting this month and will feature Ed Arnold as their guest speaker. Arnold is a local writer and historian who has recently published “Sketches to Remember” which tells the history of many buildings in the village of Lakefield and features illustrati­ons by artist Drew Ridpath. All are welcome to attend at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls Street, at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Lakefield United Church

The Lakefield U Gala will be on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Regency Lakefield. It will be an evening of music, food, and drink, along with both live and silent auctions. All proceeds will be donated to the Lakefield U Capital Campaign for the preservati­on of the historical Lakefield United Church. Tickets are $150 each, payable by cash or cheque payable to the Lakefield United Church. Horticultu­ral Society

The Lakefield Horticultu­ral Society will host guest speaker Tracy Logan on October 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield. Logan will be speaking on Native plants for both wet and dry seasons. Non-members are welcome to attend. Lakefield Legion

The Lakefield Legion Branch 77 presents its Thanksgivi­ng Turkey Spin this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Legion. You can buy a ticket for a toonie and get the chance to win a turkey, ham or gift from the prize table. This age of majority event is held downstairs in the clubroom.

On October 6 beginning at 5:30 p.m., Branch 77 will have its Fabulous Friday Night dinner. It will be a Thanksgivi­ng turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Tickets are $15 in advance (by Wednesday, October 4) or $18 at the door. This all-ages event is held upstairs in the main hall. Reserve your advance tickets by calling 705-652-7988.

Selwyn Public Library

This Friday there will be a LEGO Block Party at the Ennismore Library. Participan­ts ages 4 and up can dive into the library’s giant LEGO collection and make their own creations. The program runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Ennismore Library. Registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca and spaces are limited.

Young’s Point Paint Night

The Young’s Point Diner will be hosting a Paint Night on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring instructio­n by local artists Norma MacEachern and Cynthia Allan. No experience is necessary, and the cost is $50. Pre-registrati­on is required by phoning 705-652-8359.
