Cemetery Pageant

Trent Valley Archives (TVA) hosts their Cemetery Pageant at Little Lake Saturday and Sunday, recreating stories celebrating the lives of people who are buried there. This year, old favorites will return and a few new residents will come forward to tell their stories. The 90-minute guided tours run every 15 minutes from 6:30 until 7:15 p.m. on Sept 30 and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. on Oct 1.

During the Pageant, walk from site to site with your guide, meeting actors in period costumes who relate stories and enact interesting tales from the lives of those buried at that location.

“Some of the stories are poignant, some are macabre, others are funny, but all will give you some insight into the personality of the particular character. From strongman, Daniel McDonald, whose ability to lift large quantities earned him a wonderful reputation to Robert Henderson, the last man hanged at the Peterborough Jail to Jenny Hunter, whose sad history calls out for our compassion, each is unique,” states a press release for the event.

Good walking shoes and a flashlight are recommended. The tour is wheelchair accessible. Refreshments will be offered at the landmark cemetery chapel.

Participants meet at the Little Lake Cemetery main gates, located at the corner of Crescent and Haggart Streets. No cars are permitted in the cemetery during the tours. Parking is available outside the main gates on either Crescent or Haggart Streets.

The cost is $22, with pre-registration required. Book online at www. trentvalleyarachives.com under events or contact Heather at Trent Valley Archives, 705-745-4404 or admin@trentvalleyarchives.com.
