Naturalists

This week the Peterborough Field Naturalist (PFN) Sunday morning wildlife outing is a trip to the Ballyduff Trails and Fleetwood Creek Natural Area, led by Don McLeod. Participants will look for birds, signs of wildlife and early fall colours. They will also attempt a shuttle up the big hill.

Instead of meeting at the Riverview Park and Zoo, participants should meet at 8 a.m. at the public parking lot on Crawford Dr. at the end of Harper Rd. From the parking lot, it is about a 25 minute drive to the outing location.

Participants are encouraged to bring vehicles with AWD, 4WD or good road clearance. Those without such a vehicle can carpool from the parking lot.

The accessibility level of the outing is moderate with some uphill walking. Community members are invited to join the walk. Come see what PFN is all about. For further information visit www.peterboroughnature.org

Quakers

The public is invited to join Peterborough Quakers Sunday as they participate in World Quaker Day. To celebrate this year’s theme, ‘Gathering in Worship around the Globe,’ Quaker meetings from around the world will be capturing some aspect of the day’s worship to share on social media such as, the World Quaker Day website, Facebook page, and/ or Twitter.

The members of the Peterborough Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) will celebrate this day with a local theme of ‘How We Value Silence.’ The event will begin at 11 a.m. at Sadlier House, 751 George St. N., with an hour devoted primarily to silent worship. From 12:30 until 1 p.m. will be potluck time, and from 1 until 3 p.m. will be time to talk with guest Gordon Thompson who will elaborate on the topic: ‘Who Are Quakers?’

All are welcome to join any or all parts of this celebration.
