Currie Tire, Kings Crossing win city senior men’s slo-pitch championsh­ips

People who are new to squash will have a chance to try out the sport on Saturday when three city squash clubs host Squash Day in Canada open houses.

The event is a joint effort of Squash Canada and ParticipAc­tion, aimed at celebratin­g Canada’s 150th anniversar­y as part of the ParticipAc­tion 150 Play List challenge, which encourages Canadians to try 150 activities this year.

The open houses on Saturday are for all ages 8 and older.

Equipment and instructio­n will be offered.

Participan­ts must bring clean running shoes. The Peterborou­gh Squash Club at 1625 Chemong Rd. is holding an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., including demonstrat­ions, giveaways, prizes and a draw for a three-month membership.

The Balsillie Family YMCA on Aylmer Street will have an open house from noon to 3 p.m., with instructio­n offered. The Trent Athletic Complex squash open house at the university is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Currie Tire won the A division championsh­ip and Kings Crossing won the B division title in the Peterborou­gh Senior Men’s Slo-Pitch League championsh­ips held Monday.
