Mayor makes choices for committees, boards

Mayor Daryl Bennett will rejoin the Peterborough Police Services Board this fall, according to a list of appointments going before city council’s committee of the whole meeting Monday.

Bennett has been off the board for years after he was suspended while facing Ontario Civilian Police Commission charges. After being found guilty, he appealed and had the charges dropped, allowing him to return to the board.

The list is the first official indication that he plans to do so.

City staff prepared a report for councillors listing Bennett’s plan. It includes Coun. Henry Clarke as chairman of the budget committee, Coun. Lesley Parnell as chairwoman of the planning committee, and Coun. Andrew Beamer chairing the committee of the whole - no change from the current arrangement. The list also includes updated roles for councillors Dean Pappas, Gary Baldwin, Dan McWilliams, Diane Therrien, Keith Riel, Don Vassiliadis and Haacke.

The appointments would run until Nov. 30.
