Aces, Young Guns and Danny Bronson to share stage

- CAROLINE MCCONNELL northcrest_column@yahoo.com

The Aces are celebrating 50 years of Harmony with a concert and they have invited Danny Bronson and Young Guns to join them on stage. The concert, in support of Kawartha Food Share, takes place Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Cephas Church, 220 Goodfellow Rd.

“Young Guns placed third internationally in Pittsburgh a few years back, collegiate level, and 14th out of close to 60 quartets competing in the open category within the world-wide Barbershop Harmony Society this summer. Danny Bronson does Lightfoot…and Lightfoot is an honourary member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, so Danny Bronson has chosen his music well, says Aces member Fred Rapson.

Two time Ontario District Champions, the Aces have been performing their a cappella musical style barbershop music in Peterborough for 50 years with songs drawn from a wide range of music.

Tickets for the concert cost $20 each or $10 for students and are available at Maggie’s Meat Market, 1837 Lansdowne St. W. and Package Plus, 171 A Rink St., or by calling 705-741-2583.

Art Gala

The Art Galley of Peterborough’s annual fundraiser, the It’s All About Art Gala Auction, takes place Saturday from 7 until 10 p.m. at The Venue, 286 George St. N. The evening will include live and silent auctions plus a selection of Mystery Artist frames. Artists whose work will be included are both well-known artists from the Kawarthas as well as a few who are new to the Peterborough area.

Tickets are available by calling 705-743-9179. A tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the ticket price.

The evening promises “good food, great art and the best of times”.

Success

The Douro Dummer Art Gallery committee and the Friends of the Douro Dummer Public Library recently held a very successful fundraising event. The Culture Days: Makers and Doers event and silent auction raised just over $2,000. The money will be used to enhance the lighting in the art gallery space in the library.

We “want to thank the township staff for the use of the facilities and their sage advice, the barbecue chefs, the Lions for the use of their parking lot, all the volunteers who helped with both set up and take down, and all the people who participated and attended,” says Georgia Gale-Kidd, a friend of the Library and Art Gallery and one of the organizers of the event. “All these people made this a great community event.”

Handbags for Hospice

Handbags for Hospice, a fundraising event for Hospice Peterborough, takes place Thursday, Nov. 16, from 7 until 10 p.m. at The Venue, 286 George St. N. and will include a “fabulous array of the latest musthave trends in accessories and designer handbags for silent and live auctions”.

The exclusive $100 Second Floor Lounge tickets have already sold out, but regular tickets are still available for $50, so make sure you order yours soon!

Tickets can be purchased at Hospice Peterborough, 439 Rubidge St.; by phoning 705-7424042; or online at hospicepeterborough.org.
