Weekend retreat planned for knitters

Want to learn knitting from a master?

The Peterborou­gh Yarn shop at 432 Rogers St. is hosting a knitters’ weekend winter retreat slated for Jan. 26 to Jan. 28 at the Westwinds Inn Resort in Buckhorn.

There are five spots available for the retreat and is open to all interested knitters.

The knitting workshop is called 30 Tips, Tricks & Techniques For Seamless Knitting and will include a booklet.

Cost for the weekend retreat is $500 and includes accommodat­ions, meals, three two-hour workshops, games and prizes indoor and outdoor activities like skating, skiing, hot tub and pool.

Just want to go out for the day? Sign up for Sat. Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $110 and includes two two-hour workshops, lunch, indoor and outdoor activities.

Knit A Poncho

If you are interested in learning how to knit a classic poncho, read on.

The Peterborou­gh Yarn Shop is running a two-week poncho course, set for Nov.19 and Nov. 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In this course you will learn how to custom knit a seamless, top down, all in one piece constructi­on poncho to fit any size. You will be able to personaliz­e and design your own to make it a one of-a-kind design.

Attendees must know the basics of knitting . Class size is limited to eight students. Cost is $40. Supplies are extra. Deadline to register for the course is Nov. 1. Play Reading

The Peteboroug­h Theatre Guild invites you to a play reading of That Summer by David French. The reading takes place Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., upstairs in the Gwen Brown Studio at the PTG.

In 1990, a middle aged woman returns to the Ontario resort where 30 years earlier, she experience­d her first romantic tryst and the sexual encounter that caused seismic ripples in her family life.

The event is free, but a hat will be passed around for donations.

Special Church Service

Greenwood United is hosting a special worship service and reception Nov. 5 to recognize Shirley Lannen’s 34 years of associatio­n with music at Greenwood.

The worship service is at 10:30 am, followed by the reception in the lower hall. All are welcome.

Lioness Fundraiser

The Peterborou­gh Lioness Club is a non-profit service club establishe­d in the 1950’s, & is hosting its annual country show & dance Nov. 19, from 1 p.m. to 5 pm at the Peterborou­gh Naval Club, 24 Whitlaw St.

Tickets are $10 each & available by calling Lioness Joan at 705742-9771, or picking up tickets at Rubidge Retirement Residence, 246 Rubidge St., 705-748-4000.

The proceeds from the dance will be returned to the community for ongoing projects and for the Christmas Hamper Fund.
