Sentencing delayed for ringleader in Pringle killing
The sentencing of a co-accused in the fatal beating of a Stewart Street man has been delayed.
Samantha Hall, 26, was to be sentenced by Justice Esther Rosenberg in Peterborough’s Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday.
Hall pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit an indictable offence causing bodily harm in connection with the killing of Terry Pringle, 42.
Mr. Pringle died of blunt force trauma and was found dead in his apartment on Nov. 26.
Six people, including two teenaged boys and Hall, were arrested three days later.
Hall initially elected to have a trial by judge, but then pleaded guilty before any preliminary hearings got underway.
Assistant Crown attorney Kelly Eberhard and Hall’s attorney Krystal Manitius delivered their recommendations for sentencing Tuesday.
Rosenberg told the court she’d need time to contemplate the lawyers’ submissions, saying she’d give her ruling Nov. 14.
The judge will also reveal that day whether or not she’s decided to lift a publication ban in place, barring media from reporting on the specifics of Mr. Pringle’s death.
Meanwhile, the other co-accused charged in connection with Mr. Pringle’s death are also still before the courts.
Christopher Bolton, 30, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit assault causing bodily harm. The Bethune Street resident is expected to be sentenced Nov. 22.
One of the two teenagers charged, whose names can’t be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, also made a plea.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to manslaughter in September. He was brought to the beating to record it to prove that it happened. He’s to be sentenced Nov. 14.
The remaining co-accused charged in the father of three’s death haven’t made a plea.
The 16-year-old charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder opted for a judge-alone trial. It’s slated to start Jan. 15.
Alymer Street resident Jordan Obsborne, 25, faces charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Joseph Crawford, 29, of Dalhousie St., is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
