Electric City Hacks is back at Trent University this weekend.

The three-day event kicks off Friday and is expected to draw more than 350 post-secondary students from across Canada.

Students will put their coding knowledge to the test by creating an original hack, gadget, or a pp from scratch in less than 37 hours.

This year, there are multiple categories to encourage young hackers to build their creation with a specific goal in mind. Best Green Hack, Agriculture Hack and Adventure Hack are a few on the list.

Four Trent computer science and information systems students launched electric City Hacks last year.

To make the event more accessible this year, organizers are offering free buses from Waterloo and Toronto to Trent.

“We hope that by removing this financial barrier, students of all backgrounds and with varying degrees of experience will be able to participate ,” Mo rabbi Her vai, coorganizer, stated in a release.

Students won’t be glued to their screens for the entire time though. There’ s also a morning hike planned for Saturday and a yoga session in the afternoon.

All meals are included, too, which will be prepared by local vendors and restaurants.
