TOP 20 CAPITAL PROJECTS:
The draft budget recommends paying $61.1 million for these top 20 capital projects. That represents 71.4 per cent of the total $85.6 million in capital funds.
In cases where noted, the money set aside in 2018 doesn’t cover the entire cost of the project; in some cases, the city is saving up for a project over several years:
1. New twin-pad arena at Trent University: $21 million (total cost of project: $53 million)
2. Curtis Creek – Tivey St. outlet improvements: $4.3 million 3. Extension of Crawford Dr. to Harper Rd. to accommodate casino: $4 million (total cost: $9 million) 4. Various road resurfacing: $3.3 million
5. Hilliard St. reconstruction – Marina Blvd to The Parkway: $2.6 million 6. Airport sewer and water upgrade: $2.5 million (total cost: $5 million) 7. Trent Research and Innovation Park: $2.3 million (total cost $10 million) 8. Repairs and Upgrades for various arenas (ie: new roof for Memorial Centre) and for Wellness Centre: $2.2 million (total project cost: $26 million) 9. Bethune St. diversion: $2.1 million (total cost: $16 million)
10. Chemong Rd urbanization, from Millroy Dr. north: $2 million (total cost: $2.75 million)
11. McDonnel St. & Gilchrist St. rehabilitation: $1.9 million (total cost: $5.5 million)
12. Relocation of public works yard to Rye St.: $1.8 million (total cost $22 million)
13. Upgrades to Peterborough Landfill site: $1.5 million (total cost: $17.8 million)
14. Update to Central Area Master
Plan (ie: downtown): $1.5 million (total cost: $5.7 million)
15. Construction and transfer of leaf & yard waste compost facility: $1.5 million (total cost: $4 million)
16. Pioneer Rd upgrades and external servicing: $1.45 million (total cost: $13.4 million)
17. Curtis Creek – Euclid Ave. culvert replacement: $1.3 million
18. Parkhill Rd. W – Wallis Dr. to west city limit: $1.2 million (total cost: $25.3 million, with $13.6 million already saved up)
19. 2018 Sidewalk reconstruction: $1.1 million
20. Incentives for affordable housing: $1 million
