City has to look to the future

-

Joan Reeves hit the nail on the head.

Her letter regarding Bill 163 was bang on. It also hits home for some other “our way or the highway” zealots we are blessed with in this city.

The No Casino group. They express their moralistic view of how we should all live at the expense of jobs and income for the city to help offset rising taxes for one.

The No Parkway Group, which is made up of a minority of over-the-top greeners who have had free use of green space they don’t own at the expense of the rest of us suffering from screaming traffic through our neighborhoods. They refuse to think that there is a problem but turn a blind eye to us who pay taxes as well and don’t have that nice green space in our backyards. Just traffic and exhaust fumes.

The bike-crazy group who think that we can eliminate the car, want thousands of tax dollars spent on fancy bike lanes and that the majority of us who can’t ride a bike or can’t get to work on a bike should pander to their idea of utopia.

And finally to some of the local politicians who, like turn-signal dogs, nod their heads in agreement with these groups for nothing more than the fear of losing votes.

Thank you to those politicians who have the intestinal fortitude to stand firm on things that we need to bring this city into the future and recognize that major growth is a reality not a maybe, and we have to take steps to cope with it.
