The Peterborough Timbermen have released their 2018 Arena Lacrosse League schedule and are again limited to two home games at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, according to a team press release.

Joining the league this season are the Whitby Steelhawks, bringing the league to seven teams. The Timbermen will face each opponent twice over the course of the season, which runs from late December to March.

Peterborough will begin the season on Dec. 30 when they visit the Paris RiverWolves.

The Timbermen will play at the PMC on Jan. 6 and 7. The remainder of their home games will be played at Children’s Arena in Oshawa.

“Although it would be terrific to see the Timbermen play all seven of their home games at the Memorial Centre, we are limited to what the City of Peterborough will provide us,” stated ALL president Paul St. John, in a press release. Peterborough Timbermen head coach Joe Sullivan reacts to a play against Oshawa Outlaws during Arena Lacrosse League debut action on Feb. 26, 2017 at the Memorial Centre. The Timbermen will return to the Memorial Centre in ALL action on Jan. 6 and 7.

“Giving the Timbermen only two dates again this season forces them to play the majority of their home games in Oshawa, making it extremely difficult to build a fan base especially a loyal one. But we are excited that we can, at the very

least, give the greatest lacrosse fans in Canada a weekend of Timbermen games in early January.

“Hopefully with the addition of a Jr. Timbermen program for young players, it will show the city how serious we are about growing Timbermen lacrosse here in Peterborough. It would be great to see a home playoff game here in late March if the city will open its doors for us,” stated St. John.

The Timbermen will look to improve on their 3-11 inaugural season. Many players will return and the team will be strengthened by the draft on Dec. 2, states the release.

The league held an expansion draft for the Steelhawks on Oct. 25. From the Timbermen they selected Garrett Lewis and Cody McMahon. The Timbermen also made a trade sending Pat McCrory and a 2018 third-round draft pick to Whitby for Travis Elvin a defender who played last season for the Six Nations Snipers.

“Elvin is a young, tenacious checker that plays a very physical, shut-down style,” said Timbermen general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan.

Elvin appeared in nine games in 2017 recording one assist. He helped the Six Nations Rivermen senior B team win a President’s Cup championship in 2015.
