Conway seeks NDP nomination
Nomination meeting not yet called
It looks like there will be a race for the New Democratic Party nomination for the Peterborough-Kawartha riding.
Musician Sean Conway announced this week that he will be seeking the NDP nomination for the June provincial election.
He joins Zach Hatton, a Grade 12 student at St. Peter Secondary School and YourTV community cable channel volunteer who announced in July that he was seeking the nomination.
No nomination meeting date has been set yet by the NDP riding association.
The Progressive Conservatives have already nominated Dave Smith as their candidate.
Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Jeff Leal, who has been the riding ’s Liberal MPP since 2003, has not yet indicated if he will seek a fifth term.
Conway is the music programmer at The Garnet.
He was born in Peterborough, grew up in Curve Lake First Nation and then moved to Peterborough to join the arts scene.
“I’ve had a life-long interest in politics and am proud to be given the opportunity to put myself forward,” Conway stated.
Riding residents can buy NDP party memberships to vote at the nomination meeting online at www.ontariondp.ca/.
Under riding redistribution, the new PeterboroughKawartha riding will include North Kawartha and Trent Lakes townships (currently in Laurie Scott’s HaliburtonKawartha Lakes-Brock riding) but will lose AsphodelNorwood and Otonabee-South Monaghan townships to the new Northumberland-Peterborough South riding.
