Leaving a lasting legacy for the ‘community we call home’

-

Peterborough has been home to Gord and Olivia James for more than 40 years. It’s a place they value and care about—where they’ve raised their family, enjoyed their careers, and been actively involved. A retired Quaker executive and teacher respectively, Gord and Olivia have always wanted to make sure Peterborough is the best it can be, and that’s why they’ve done all they can for their community. It’s why they’ve given their time as volunteers to worthy organizations and causes, and why they’ve also given their financial support as donors. One of the organizations they’re passionate about is the PRHC Foundation. “The hospital is a cornerstone of our community, and we all rely on it being there for our families and friends,” says Gord. “PRHC is also a key drawing point for businesses, for other people who are thinking about coming to Peterborough to work and live, so supporting the hospital is good for the growth of our community.” In addition to doing what they can to support the hospital today, Gord and Olivia want to ensure the hospital will be there for the community for future generations. That’s why they decided to include a gift to the PRHC Foundation in their Wills. “I think it’s important to make a legacy gift to the hospital because whenever we’re investing, making a purchase, or donating money, we look for the same things—longevity, purposefulness, something that’s worthy, something that’s going to be around, ”says Olivia. “After all, a legacy gift is your last gift to your community.” Gord notes that making a legacy gift to a charity is easier than people might think: “It can be as simple as making sure there’s a clause in your Will. A call to your financial advisor or lawyer can set things in motion. Once it’s done, you have the peace of mind of having made the decision, knowing that something good is going to come out of it.” While they know that a legacy gift might not be for everyone, they encourage others to give it some consideration. “Making a gift to a charity through a Will is a meaningful, personal decision,” says Olivia. “Each person makes the decision for their own reasons. But the end result is the same—a positive impact on the community for generations to come. A lasting legacy for the community we call home.” For more information about making a gift through your Will to the PRHC Foundation, please call Lea Thomas at (705) 743-2121, ext. 3957. Always consult a professional financial advisor to discuss the best charitable giving options for you.

Gord & Olivia James are leaving a legacy. They’re helping sustain first-rate healthcare in our community for generations to come.
