Nothing wrong with ‘It’s a Natural’
Re: “Live Outside the Ordinary scrapped by city council as Peterborough tagline,” Nov. 14
Thank you to city councillors for scrapping the “Live Outside the Ordinary” tagline for Peterborough. Everyone I have spoken to regarding this moniker are happy it has been scrapped and prefer keeping the original “It’s a Natural” tagline. The consensus is to “Keep it Simple,” and “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?”
“Live Outside the Ordinary” begs more questions ie. How does living outside the ordinary make a better quality of life here? Also, the people here are just average, hard-working citizens. In fact, we have the most average cross-section of people per capita of any city in Canada. That’s why new products are often introduced to Peterborough residents first before they go on the market.
If people want to Live Outside the Ordinary, I suggest they move to Vancouver where extraordinary initiatives have been taken to make it The Greenest City in Canada.
Thank you also to city councillors for revisiting and reconsidering our original tagline, “Peterborough: It’s a Natural.” As Joni Mitchell always said, “Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you got til it’s gone…”
“Peterborough ; It’s a Natural” is the best tagline for a place with such natural beauty--natural trails, natural lakes, natural wildlife, natural greenspace and landscape. It’s a natural choice to want to move and live here because there is so much nature all around us. If councillors feel it is absolutely necessary to spend taxpayer’s money to enhance this slogan, then they should just add the word “Beauty” to the end of it: “Peterborough - It’s a Natural Beauty.”
However, we shouldn’t change our tagline until we actually change our mindset here. In order to change, we need to implement more green initiatives in Peterborough to keep it as clean and natural as possible. Then maybe someday, when it is warranted, we can rename the tagline: “Peterborough, The Greenest City in Ontario.”
