N LL rosters set; Withers to debut in Rochester

The National Lacrosse League 2017-18 rosters were unveiled Friday with Peter borough connection­s throughout the league including seven players on the Rochester Knighthawk­s roster.

Jake Withers, the Knighthawk­s’ first-round draft pick, will suit up as a rookie while his Peterborou­gh Century 21 Lakers’ teammate Eric Shewell has cracked the active roster for opening night. After missing the 2017 Lakers eason to hernia surgery, Cory Vitarelli is ready to roll with Rochester. Josh Currier is back for his sophomore season while veterans Matt Vinc, in goal, and Ian Llord help anchor the defence. Dylan Evans will start the season on the injured list.

Zach Currier is a rookie and firstround draft pick for the Calgary Roughnecks where he joins Lakers teammates Holden Cattoni, in his second season, and Curtis Dickson.

The Toronto Rock will feature Brock Sorensen on defence and Mann Cup stand out Adam Jones at forward. The Colorado Mammoth feature Lake rs’ captain Robert Hope, Brad Self and Bryce Sweeting.

Former NLL MVP and 2017 MSL MVP Shawn Evans and 2017 Lake rs MVP Kyle Buchanan return to the New England Blackwolve­s. In Buffalo, Trent Excalibur player Ethan Schott cracked the Bandits defence as a rookie and joins Lake rs Mark Ste en hui sand Nick Weiss.

Thomas Hoggarth will start the Vancouver Stealth season on the injured reserve list with a sprained ankle. Stealth coach and Peterborou­gh native Jamie Batley said Hog garth will miss two-to-four weeks.

Lakers goalie Evan Kirk will start for the Saskatchew­an Rush after being acquired from the New England Black wolves in the off-season. Junior Lake rs grad Nick Fin lay was named to the Rush practice roster.

Chad Tutton missed the 2017 Lakers season with an Achilles tendon injury and he’s also expected to miss the Georgia Swarm’s 201718 schedule, according to a Swarm press release.
