Midget Ice Kats conduct winter clothing drive

- EXAMINER STAFF

The Peterborough Kings Auto Wreckers Midget AA Ice Kats girls hockey team chose helping Share the Warmth - Peterborough for a team activity that would have a positive impact on the community.

After connecting with co-ordinators Jen Freymond and her husband Ben Lalande, the Midget AA Ice Kats collected new and used winter clothing for distribution to the homeless or those in need in the greater Peterborough area.

“No one should have to be cold,” team captain Amelia Lackie said. “We wanted to work as a team to help collect and distribute warm clothing to those in our community who are in need.”

Jen Freymond, a former Ice Kats player herself, was thrilled with the team’s contribution of 76 winter coats, 24 pairs of snowpants, 14 winter vests, 8 blankets and a large quantity of tuques, mittens, gloves and scarves.

“It is important for our youth to learn about generosity and about the importance of giving back to their community,” Freymond said. “We were very excited when the Midget AA Ice Kats picked Share the Warmth – Peterborough to support this year, and this is an excellent jumpstart to our campaign, which officially runs from Dec. 1 to 21.”
