Christmas spirit in full swing at Activity Haven

Activity Haven is in full swing for Christmas with a variety of events to bring out your festive spirit. Ladies Night Out is happening on Thursday at 5 p.m. with a ham and scalloped potato dinner and entertainm­ent by the Silver Steppers dancers. There will be door prizes, lots of laughs, and a great meal.

Tickets for this event are $12. Donations to the Youth Emergency Shelter of personal hygiene items for men and women, or any gift cards, would be greatly appreciate­d.

Friday, December 15 is the annual Activity Haven Christmas Dinner, offering a complete turkey meal with all of the trimmings. The entertainm­ent will be provided by the Activity Haven For Fun Orchestra and there will be some fun door prizes. This event happens in the main dining room at 11 a.m. and the cost is only $20.

Christmas Day brings a huge event to Activity Haven; it’s the Leveck Family Christmas Dinner at 3 p.m. A classic turkey dinner feast will take center stage, along with fellowship and camaraderi­e. Tickets cost $20 and are going quickly as space is limited so get yours soon. Activity Haven $6 lunches continue. This week Tuesday’s lunch includes honey garlic chicken, baked potatoes, and broccoli with cheese sauce. Hot roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy and peas will be served for Wednesday’s lunch.

Dessert, coffee, and tea are included in the price. All lunches take place in room 5 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Take out is also available; just call ahead.

Family Paint Night

Parent and child Family Paint Nights are held regularly at Play Café, Brookdale Plaza, Chemong Rd. The next one is Friday at 6 p.m. It’s all about fun, creativity, and spending time together! No artistic talent is required; step by step instructio­ns are provided. Children must be four years and older.

Spaces are limited. Preregistr­ation is required with payment within 24 hours. The registrati­on fee is non-refundable and can only be exchanged for dates given. The cost is $39.55 for parent and child and $12 per additional child. This includes HST.

Arctic Discussion

Community members are invited to ‘Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals’ in the Arctic tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the new student centre at Trent University. This event brings together researcher­s, policy-makers, diplomats, and Indigenous leaders for an innovative and exciting discussion of the potential impact of the UN sustainabl­e developmen­t goals in the North.

Speakers include Inuuteq Holm Olsen, Minister Plenipoten­tiary for Greenland in the U.S. and Canada; Dawn Lavell-Harvard, Director, First Peoples House of Learning and Former President, Native Women’s Associatio­n of Canada; Tony Penikett, Former Premier of the Yukon; Eva Wu, Co-founder, North in Focus; Tom Hutchinson, Former Chair, Canadian Polar Commission and Professor Emeritus, Trent University; Heather Nicol, Professor, Trent University; Chris Frugal, Professor, Trent University; Terzah Tippin Poe, Lecturer, Harvard University.
