Teddy Bear Toss Thursday

Petes holding Peterborough Hockey Association Night in match against Sudbury

- EXAMINER STAFF

The annual Peterborough Petes Teddy Bear Toss night will take place Thursday when the Petes take on the visiting Sudbury Wolves at the Peterborough Memorial Centre starting at 7:05 p.m.

When the Petes score their first goal of the game, fans will be invited to throw their new stuffed toys, tuques or mittens onto the ice.

The Petes are hoping to improve on last year’s total of 1,525 donations which was down from 2015’s 2,232.

Volunteers from local minor hockey teams will help collect the toys from the ice, which will be counted and delivered by Winslow-Gerolamy Motors Ltd. to the annual Energy 99.7/Country 105 Christmas Miracle Broadcast and Toy Drive, taking place all day Saturday at Lansdowne Place mall.

Dozens of minor hockey teams will also be in attendance for Thursday’s Petes game as part of the annual Peterborough Hockey Association Night. Captains of PHA teams will take part in a pregame ceremonial puck drop.

The Salvation Army Band will entertain fans with holiday classics in the East Lobby and will perform the national anthem.

Other groups on hand will include Peterborough Musicfest (diner card sales), Snofest Idol (finalists singing in the North Lobby), and the 7 MD White Tyke team (raffle ticket sales).

Following Thursday’s game, the Petes will hit the road to southwestern Ontario. They’ll face the Knights in London on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then travel to Sarnia to take on the Sting on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The Petes will play their final home game before Christmas on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. against the Ottawa 67’s.

NOTE: Rookie Nick Robertson did not practice with the Petes on Tuesday after being injured Thursday while Bobby Dow, who was also injured in Thursday’s game, was in a no-contact practice jersey.
