Abraham out as board chairwoman
Diane Lloyd returns to the helm of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board
Cathy Abraham is out as chairwoman of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
Her replacement is no stranger to the head chair of the Peterboroughbased public school board.
Diane Lloyd was elected Thursday night as chairwoman of the board, replacing Abraham, who has been chairwoman for the first three years of the board’s fouryear term.
“It is an honour and a privilege to serve as Chairperson of the Board, and I extend my appreciation to my fellow trustees for entrusting me with this responsibility,” Lloyd stated.
“As a board, we are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff and will continue to move forward, with all our community partners, in support of their further success.”
Lloyd is in her fifth term on the board and has previously been a board chairwoman and vicechairwoman.
Lloyd, a Lakefield real estate agent and former federal Liberal candidate for the Peterborough riding, represents Trent Lakes, North Kawartha and Selwyn townships in Peterborough County on the board.
Abraham is a Clarington trustee.
Anthony Caruso, who was appointed to the board in August 2016 to replace veteran trustee Gordon Gilchrist, who resigned after he was overheard making racist remarks during drumming by Alderville First Nation drummers at the grand opening of the Cobourg Collegiate, was elected Thursday night as the board’s new vice-chairman.
Caruso represents Cobourg, Port Hope along with Hamilton and Alnwick-Haldimand townships as trustee.
“I am very pleased to accept this new position and the expanded opportunity to contribute to the board’s success,” Caruso stated.
“Public education is critical in building healthy communities, and we will continue to do all that we can to support positive outcomes for our students.”
