- EXAMINER STAFF

An Alberta Clipper is expected to dump 5 to 10 centimetres of snow in the Peterborough area on Monday night and Tuesday, with gusty winds on Tuesday and frigid temperatures on Tuesday night, creating the potential for some poor driving conditions.

As of Dec. 1, the city’s ban on overnight street parking has been in place. Motorists parking on city streets between 2 and 6 a.m. face a fine and having their vehicle towed away.

Winds to 20 km/h, with gusts to 40 km/h, are forecast for Tuesday in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, getting even more blustery on Tuesday night with winds to 30 km/h, with gusts to 50 km/h. A low of 14 C, feeling more like -25 C with the wind chill, is forecast for Tuesday night.

A special weather statement has been in effect since Sunday for Peterborough and the Kawarthas, along with the rest of southern Ontario.

“An Alberta Clipper low pressure area will sail across Southern Ontario tonight into Tuesday,” states the special weather statement for Peterborough and the Kawarthas as of 3:40 p.m. Monday.

“This weather disturbance will bring a general snowfall of 5 to 10 cm with it by Tuesday morning.

“The snow is expected to begin late this afternoon and taper off Tuesday morning. Although localized amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible, the snowfall warning criterion of 15 cm snow in 12 hours is not expected to be reached.

“Poor winter driving conditions are likely. Untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery.”
