St. John Ambulance hosting variety of first aid courses

If you need to take a first aid course for work, school or general knowledge, here are the first aid courses for January, run by St. John Ambulance and happening at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.

Standard First Aid

The standard first aid course is a two day course and provides comprehens­ive first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Jan. 10 to Jan. 11; Jan. 17 to Jan. 18; Jan. 24 to Jan. 25 and Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training and includes training for adult, child and infant CPR This class has the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Emergency First Aid

The emergency first aid course is a one day course, providing basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 30 at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SJA also offers weekend and evening sessions at their facility on the lower level of Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: Jan. 13 to Jan. 14; Jan. 20 to Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 to Jan. 28 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for Jan 13; Jan. 20 and Jan. 27 at Applewood.

Renewals

Is your standard first aid certificat­e close to expiring? There is a renewal class slated for Jan. 23 at the Lions centre, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m for level A or 8:30 to 5 p.m. for Level C.

All first aid courses come with a certificat­e valid for three years. For more or to register, contact St. John Ambulance at 705-7450331.

Calendar

Winter Break Discovery Camps: The Peterborou­gh Museum and Archives offers three days of Winter Discovery Camps set for Jan. 3 to Jan. 5.

Kids experiment, craft and play to learn about northern animals, ice and snow, and explore the magic of winter at the museum. Camps are geared to kids four to 11 years old, with half and full day registrati­on.

The camps run two sessions daily from 9 a.m. to 12 and 1 to 4 p.m. Both follow the same theme but are different camps. Campers can join one or both sessions.

Cost is $20/half day; $40 for a full day. Register online at REcServe; by phone, 705-743-5180 or in person at the museum, 300 Hunter St. E., on top of Armour Hill.
