Holiday Lights Glow Ride coming Wednesday

Join B!KE, the Peterborou­gh Community Cycling Hub, for a Holiday Lights Glow Ride on Wednesday.

Decorate your bike with glow sticks and battery powered LEDs and join in a relaxed, community ride to enjoy houses lit up for winter. Bicycle route will include a tour through East City and the Avenues. Bike decorating begins at 5:30 p.m. Riders are encouraged to bring their own decoration­s, although B!KE has some decorative LED lights which can be borrowed. A white front light and red tail light is required for all riders; helmets are strongly encouraged. Families with children who ride independen­tly with 20” or larger wheels are welcome. Lunchtime organ music

Enjoy Lunchtime Organ Music on Thursday from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid St. This annual event has been taking place each Thursday throughout Advent, and wraps up this week with organist Randy Mills performing. Admission is free and all are welcome. Donations of food and money for the local area foodbank will be gratefully accepted.

Family improv class

The Peterborou­gh Academy for the Performing Arts (PAPA) presents a Family Improv Class, Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This free workshop is a great opportunit­y to experience Improv, a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue are made up in the moment. Linda Kash, cofounder of PAPA, and well-known actress, describes Improv as “an excellent foundation for gaining confidence, encouragin­g teamwork, sharing ideas, and taking creative risks in an environmen­t that is safe to do so”. Doorway to Christmas

Celebrate Christmas Eve with an evening of live music and a dramatic re-telling of the Christmas Story by Mary and Joseph. Many of the Town Ward churches will be celebratin­g Christmas with special services. All are welcome.

On Christmas Eve, Emmanuel United Church celebrates with a Family Candleligh­t Service from 7 to 8 p.m. at Emmanuel East, 534 George St. Trinity United Church, 360 Reid St., has a Christmas Eve Family Communion Service at 7:30 p.m. At Murray Street Baptist Church, 175 Murray St., a Christmas Eve Service takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. St. John’s Anglican Church, 99 Brock St., has a Family Celebratio­n of the Birth of Jesus at 4 p.m. and a Traditiona­l Candleligh­t Celebratio­n at 10 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass runs at 4 p.m., 8 p.m. and midnight at the Cathedral of Saint Peter-in-Chains, 441 Reid St.

On Christmas Day, St. John’s Anglican Church has a Traditiona­l Celebratio­n of the Birth of Jesus at 10 a.m. and Christmas Day Mass takes place at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Peter-in-Chains.
