Timbermen acquire offensive threat

- EXAMINER STAFF

Just days after signing Joel Matthews for the 2018 season, the Peterborough Timbermen of the Arena Lacrosse League have added another offensive weapon in Chris Attwood.

Acquired from his hometown St. Catharines ShockWave in exchange for Caleb Wiles, Attwood has been a major player in Ontario lacrosse for several years with his highlycoveted offensive skills, according to the Timbermen.

“I had the pleasure of working with Chris this past summer in Tyendinaga where he dominated the Sr. B Three Nations Lacrosse League,” head coach and general manager Joe Sullivan stated.

“Chris has an amazing outside shot and the ability to be very nasty to play against. He will work great on our right side to complement our current roster.”

In 13 ALL games, Attwood had 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 points to finish third in league scoring.

He is a veteran of the defunct Canadian Lacrosse League, where he twice led the league in scoring (2011 and 2014), was voted offensive player of the year (2012) and most outstanding player (2012 and 2014). He consistently finishes in the top three in scoring in every league he plays in.

Attwood brings a champion’s pedigree to the Timbermen with two CLAX Creator’s Cups, a President’s Cup and a Founders Cup under his belt.

In Wiles, the Timbermen give up their second leading scorer from 2017. From Orillia, Wiles finished the 2017 season with 40 points in nine games, behind captain Tim Bergin who led with 56 points in 12 games.

The Timbermen open their season Dec. 30 in the seven-team Arena Lacrosse League at the Syl Apps Community Centre in Paris, Ont. against the Paris River Wolves, before coming home to the Memorial Centre on Jan. 6 and 7.

Tickets for those two games are now on sale at the Memorial Centre box office.

Their remaining five home games will be played at Children’s Arena in downtown Oshawa.

Season tickets, at a cost of $50 for the full season, including the Memorial Centre games, can be purchased online at www.arenalacrosseleague.com.
