Lakefield singers start new season

The Lakefield Singers will begin their winter 2018 season on Jan. 10 until March 14. The group is a welcoming mixed chorus with a wide range of talents, ages and experience. All are welcome. The cost is $70 for the season and the group meets from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. on Wednesdays at Lakefield United Church, 47 Regent Street in Lakefield.

Lakefield Ladies Curling

On Dec. 6, the team of Linda Parcels, Darlene Hockaday, Kerry Schumacher and Jane Brown took part in the Attersley Tire Bonspiel at the Whitby Curling Club. They placed second in their draw.

On Dec. 14, the Ladies Division held its annual fun Christmas Bonspiel. This year’s festivitie­s consisted of regular league play in the morning and afternoon with a pot luck lunch to bring morning and afternoon players together for some fun and friendship.

Douro Dummer Library

The Douro-Dummer Public Library will have an art gallery opening on January 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. at 435 Douro 4th Line. Fabric artist Anne Garron will be featured, and this is the first time there has been a textile artist in the gallery. The show will run from January 2 to February 20, with the grand opening on January 12. All are welcome to attend and there will be refreshmen­ts.

Bridgenort­h

There will be a Women’s Coffee Hour on Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at the church. The theme for the meeting will be “Has Your Faith Lost Its Zip?” All are welcome to attend.

The Bridgenort­h United Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the last Tuesday of the month. The group knits, crochets and visits along with tea, coffee and goodies.

The shawls they make vary in colour and design and are made with love and compassion. There is a good supply available of shawls and baby blankets. Please feel free to get one for a loved one, a neighbour or a friend in a retirement facility or hospital. The group also made toques and mitts for the food bank this year. On Wednesday there will be a Snowy Storytime from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library. This program is for ages 3 to 5. Registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca.

Also on Wednesday, there will be a drop-in Greenscree­n Program. All ages can dropin between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library. There will be several background­s to choose from, so bring your imaginatio­n and strike a pose in front of fantastica­l background­s.

There will be a LEGO Block Party in Lakefield on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 4 and up. Registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca.

On Jan. 3 there will be a Maker Morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Bridgenort­h. Participan­ts can experiment with some of the library’s new tech toys. This program is for ages 4 and up, and ages 4 to 8 should attend with a caregiver. Registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca.
