Tyke Maroon Petes move up a tier

After completing the preliminar­y round of the Lakeshore Hockey League, the PHA Little Caesars Tyke 7MD Maroon Petes look to continue building on early season successes.

In the New Year, the Lakeshore League tiers the 17 teams into three divisions. The team has demonstrat­ed excellent developmen­t to this point and achieved their team goal to earn a place in the second division, according to a team press release.

The players have worked hard including weekly dryland skill developmen­t, physical literacy training sessions and power skating.

“The coaching staff consisting of Darryll Hancock, Jeff Merrick, Jamie Pink, Jef Dueck and Chris White are proud of the players for their positive approach to training, hard work and commitment to become better players and a better team,” states the release.

The team has an overall record of 8-9-3. The strong play of goaltender Landon White has anchored a much improved team defence led by Rylan Chatten, Nolan Shearer, Parker Anderson, Jude O’Neill, Alex Anderson and Isaac Kennedy.

The attack has steadily improved throughout the season with key offensive contributi­ons by James Dueck, Camden Merrick, MacKenna Hancock, Ben Chambers, Kohen Johnson and Gavin Pink all contributi­ng to a balanced attack.

The team will compete in the upcoming Cujo Classic and Whitby Wildcats Tyke MD tournament­s.
