Liberals out of touch with business owners

-

An open letter to Labour Minister Kevin Flynn:

As a small business owner, I contacted the Ministry of Labor on Dec. 8 and twice again on Dec. 12 and 14, 2017 to determine how the paid emergency days will be calculated. I have an employee who wanted to take Jan. 2 off as an emergency leave day, and both she and I (employer) wanted to know how much she would be paid. The customer service representative at the Ministry of Labour said the implementation procedures and the calculation method has not yet been approved and documented yet.

Mr. Flynn, did you notice these changes were to come into play in two weeks? Are you serious, no direction yet? We don’t know how this will be calculated?

Further, I needed direction on how stat holiday pay will be calculated, but that is not in place either.

I don’t think you understand the urgency of these implementation rules be put in place, now that the legislation has been hammered through. When will we get direction? Even your own office says they can’t provide any help!

I urge you to provide direction immediately! This just shows and reiterates the fact that our Ontario Liberals are so out of touch with the needs of small business. And this coming from a former long standing Liberal supporter.

I am embarrassed at the lack of vision in the implementation of Bill 148.
