Minor Midgets get honourable mention

Despite a top eight finish at the annual Toronto Marlies Christmas Tournament the Peterborou­gh Foley Bus Lines minor midget AAA Petes remain outside the Top 10 of the OHL Cup Showcase Power Rankings.

The Petes posted a 5-1 record at the tournament losing to the Mississaug­a Reps in the quarterfin­al. The Reps are ranked No. 5 and the Marlies No. 1.

The Petes, who have been ranked as high as No. 10 received an honourable mention.

Tippett Cited

Peterborou­gh native and Mississaug­a Steelheads forward Owen Tippett was a runner-up for OHLplayer-of-the-week.Tippetthad three goals and four assists for seven points in three games last week.

Meanwhile Tippett had a huge game Thursday night, scoring a hat trick and then a shootout goal as the Steelheads ended a 23-game winning streak by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with a 4-3 win.

Top Performers

The OHL announced its Top Performers of the Month for December on Wednesday and they included the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds trio of Morgan Frost as player of the month, Rasmus Sandin as top rookie and Matthew Villalta as top goalie. The London Knights’ Evan Bouchard was named top defenceman.

Frost led the league with 20 points including eight goals, 12 assists and a plus-minus rating of +18 over 10 games.

Academic Awards

The OHL Academic Players of the Month for December were announced on Wednesday and include Jake Murray of the Hamilton Bulldogs, Kai Edmonds of the Barrie Colts, Alex Gritz of the Erie Otters and Ty Dellandrea of the Flint Firebirds.

Roster Notes

John Parker-Jones returned to the lineup on Thursday and Matyas Svoboda was scratched. Remaining out with injuries were Adam Timleck (upper body), Declan Chisholm (high ankle sprain) and Matt McNamara (upper body).
