New film features oil paint animation

Kawartha Lakes Film Circuit (KLFC) has announced a screening of the film Loving Vincent on Jan. 30. The screening of this film is part of the Kawartha Lakes Film Circuit’s film series, Films by the Falls.

KLFC was formed in 2013 by a group of volunteers living in the Fenelon Falls area who had a desire to share their passion for film. They screen movies on the last Tuesday of each month from September to May. Loving Vincent is their first screening of the year.

Loving Vincent is the story of the mysterious life and death of the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. This film is the first oil-paint-only animated film and is comprised of more than 65,000 oil-painted frames made by 125 artists.

The film was written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman.

Loving Vincent was initially shot using well-known actors such Douglas Booth, Eleanor Tomlinson and Saoirse Ronan before the frames were painted over. The artists who helped work on this film came from all over the world to be a part of the production, which was taking place in Poland and Greece.

No other artist has attracted more myth than Vincent Van Gogh. He was labelled as a genius, a mad man and a layabout in his life time but his letters and paintings that were left behind tell his story. The paintings in the film were inspired by Van Gogh’s own work, as he once said, “We cannot speak other by our paintings.”

Tickets for Loving Vincent will be available at the door or in advance at Sweet Bottoms Coffee House at 19 Colborne Street, Fenelon Falls at $10 per ticket.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the screening begins at 7:30 p.m. Fenelon Falls Secondary School is located at 66 Lindsay St., Fenelon Falls, about an hour northwest of Peterborough.
