One Peterborough Curling Club alumnus is out and another still alive at the 2018 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Whitby Curling Club.

Stephanie Thompson, curling second for Unionville’s Katelyn Wasylkiw, saw her first trip to the Ontario Scotties come to an end on Friday. They fell to 0-3 and were eliminated from the triple-knockout event with a 9-4 afternoon loss to Thornhill’s Chrissy Cadorin. It was a close game until Cadorin scored five in the seventh end.

Jenna Bonner, also a Peterborough native, is lead for skip Cathy Auld of Listowel. They’re 5-1 after three wins on Friday.

In the morning, Auld won a remarkable see-saw battle with Oakville’s Heather Heggestad 11-9. She scored three in the 10th end to rally from a couple of deficits. Auld trailed 4-0 after two ends and rallied to tie it 5-5 by scoring three in the fifth end. Heggestad rebounded to build a 9-6 lead after eight ends but Auld scored five over the final two ends.

Auld followed that by making short work of Mississauga’s Jacqueline Harrison who shook hands trailing 9-3 in the eighth end. Auld jumped to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. She scored two in the sixth and seventh ends to seal the win.

In the night draw, Auld beat Caledon’s Allison Flaxey 9-4 by scoring four in the seventh and two in the eighth before they shook hands in the ninth end.
