“Wild About Art” at The Mount Community Centre

The second art exhibit to take place in the Heritage Room at the Mount Community Centre, 1545 Monaghan Rd. will have its opening reception on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wild About Art will feature local Peterborough artists Eddie LePage, Indi Miskolczi, and Silvia Ferreri.

Eddie Le Page is self-taught and has worked as a full-time artist for over four decades. His images capture the beauty he observes in nature, with his unique style.

“In my paintings I aim to portray the bond between people and the natural world,” says Le Page.

He was born and raised in Dundas, Ontario and his work can be found in private and corporate collections internationally. He is represented on the Peterborough Pathway of Fame.

Indi Miskolczi works as a freelance artist as well as at a veterinary clinic. She grew up in Northumberland County on a mixed farm and has always had animals in her life.

“My first love are horses and I had my first pony when I was five,” she says. “I learned how to ride bareback with baling twine for reins attached to his halter. At an early age I lived in Jos, Nigeria, West Africa and there acquired an Arabian stallion from South Sudan where I rode through the villages. The sounds, the smells, the people, the flora and fauna are still with me to this day and became my foundation in life, in my art and of course, with animals.”

Miskolczi works with a dip pen and ink, as well as other media such as coloured pencil, acrylic and egg tempera. Her current projects include a series of canines and Asil Arabian horses.

Silvia Ferreri graduated from York University with a specialized honours degree in visual arts. She works in acrylic paints in a mystical and colourful style, in order to appeal to a range of ages. She says that her canvasses can include “quirky and goofy animals or be smokey and abstract.”

“I’m always trying to add an element of spirited whimsy. Some reoccurring themes of mine are simple houses, birds, butterflies, and birds’ nests,” says Ferreri.

The show continues until March 25. Visitors can enter through the main door on the north end of the building, and go through the first door on the right.

Artists interested in taking part in future exhibits can contact curator Ellen Cowie at 705-748-5880 or ellencowie@yahoo.ca.
