Woman suffers serious leg injury after two cars crash during Saturday morning police chase
A woman suffered a serious leg injury during a collision at Parkhill Road West and Water Street on Saturday morning following a police chase.
The circumstances of the twovehicle collision are under investigation by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
The SIU issued an appeal Monday night for witnesses to the collision to come forward to the SIU investigators.
Around 7:20 a.m. Saturday, a city police officer observed a car going the wrong way on a one-way street, travelling northbound on the southbound-only section of George Street, according to the SIU.
The police officer attempted to stop the car, the SIU said, but a short time later, at the intersection of Water Street and Parkhill Road West, the vehicle the officer was attempting to stop collided with a second car.
A 55-year-old woman driving the second car was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a serious leg injury, the SIU said.
The 21-year-old man driving the first car and his passenger, also a 21-year-old man, were uninjured, the SIU said.
A section of Water Street was closed to traffic for several hours on Saturday morning for the city police and SIU investigation.
Two SIU investigators have been assigned to investigate what happened.
“The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this incident to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529,” SIU spokesman Jason Gennaro stated.
“The unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.”
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
